Meet-Up Sessions...

Meet-Up Sessions!

Been pretty busy lately...

Meeting up with friends almost everyday...

And I'm still living in the Chiang Mai mode cos I've been sleeping really late and then waking up really early...

*tsk tsk*

Can't wait to fly back there again! =)

Anyway, I met up with 5 lovely babes a few days back. We had a lunch buffet at Kushinbo, and it was yummylicious! Found another great restaurant with good food to offer... =)

The six of us (from top to bottom, left to right): Me, Eleanor, Corinne, Xinxin, Angela and Kangli. The only matured ones in the entire team. YAY!!!! =)

Lovely!

Surprisingly, I did not celebrate Christmas at all this year. Either it's due to my tiredness after the trip, or I simply could not be bothered.

So I spent Xmas Eve going to Ikea to buy photo frames, developing my CM photos at Loyang Point, and then staying at home for the rest of the night.

A quiet, peaceful Xmas Eve just passed like that, but I like. =)

The only flaw was the absence of log cake. =(

And then it was Christmas Day.

Spent it with a friend/family whom I know in my entire life, and still counting!

Thank you for the handmade card and lovely present. I like them! =)

26th Dec:

Boxing Day - not my concern here.

Tsunami incident 4 years ago - feel sad for the victims and their family, but amazed at how time flies.

The day LustyLester was born - my gosh. He's been living in this world for the 22nd year! Oh no, I can never catch up with him. *hah!*

Anyway.

We planned a surprise mini birthday celebration for the shou xin gong at his house, and man, I had a hard time trying to make up stories and think of excuses to drop by his house.

Dunno if the surprise element was there at all, but I still hope that he's happy with our arrangements.

Lester Yong Chang Jun, you better appreciate our efforts okie! And make sure you wear our Sexy Ai Xin Adidas jersey whenever you go running at East Coast Park okie... *hehs*

Cute cute Moley preparing the birthday cake.

Always trying to act high fashion, even when it was just cutting a cake.*haiz*

That's right. You dun have any breasts, so stop feeling for any. *hah!*

Didnt know 'BeBe' is in Lester's room. And ya, I love the cowboy hat. Reminds me of Stevie cos I saw him wear one before. *hehs*

Me and the S$400+ Dior shades and the cool cool cowboy hat. Erm, actually, it should be Me and the S$150 second hand Dior shades and the cool cool cowboy hat. Oh wells, who cares. But I like the shades though. *heehee*

Our dear friend is into vintage glasses, so he has several pairs for us to play around with.

Sexy modelling poses...

I've got a patriotic friend! Well done.

Anyhow, hope you have enjoyed yourself and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, MY FRIEND!!! =))

More meet-ups along the way.

I'm super exhausted.

*yawns*

See you soon. =)

Chiang Mai Part V

Chiang Mai Part Five.

Final installment because it's about the final two days spent with the Thai teachers and students...

On the very last night, the school organised a Thank You Party for us. Dinner was held at the parade square, and all teachers and students ate together. Definitely never encountered before such happening. *hah*

I was touched by the school's effort to plan such a warmth farewell party.

All the students had their dinner on the mats, while the teachers and us had tables and chairs. But I prefer coziness, so I went to join them... =))

Once I flashed my camera and started taking photos, a bunch of kids suddenly appeared, all wanting to take photos with me. *HAH!* And a while later, I couldnt find my food. Not that I mind. =)

My ah girl and I! She's been such a sweet girl. Always cuddles me from the back. There was once when her older brother brought her to me, and she was crying so badly. Then I found out that she missed home after going back for the weekend (the school is a boarding school, so students as young as 5 years old have to stay in the school for the week). So poor thing, right? Have to stay away from home at such a tender age...

Me and KK again. I miss him badly! He was one of the minority students who cried badly on the last day when we were about to set off for the airport. Oh man, I can't wait to see him again!

Me and Puppet Boyfriend. He gave me a teeny weeny teddy bear, which totally caught me off guard cos I didnt expect any gift from anyone. So sweet, right?!?! And he's also one of the few who cried on the last day, which also surprised me cos he's quite man and tough (he and his friends helped us to carry the tables up and down the stage during our puppet rehearsals. So much more helpful and selfless than some of the Singapore guys I know).

Me and Favourite. He's very very disturbing cos he always disturbed me. He was dressed up like that because he and his friends were to perform a dance, however their performance was cancelled. What a pity. Anyway, he made me a simple-looking bracelet. And oh, he wears hot pants to bed too. Just thought it'd be interesting to share. *hehs*

Eh...some random students whom I've never met before until then.

Yes, the school has lots of guys who are feminine. Nothing unusual, especially in Thailand.

Potential women in the future.

One of the good good friends I've made...LIAN JIA!!! He gave me his address in Chiang Rai! *hahah* So yeah, I'll definitely write to him because I'm dying to know his real name. *HAH!* In fact, I'm dying to know ALL their real names. We've been giving all sorts of funny labels to the students because it was too difficult to remember their sign name, much less to say their real Thai name.

The guy in white wears bra, even during normal school hours.

My basketball buddy!

The art team and our favourites.

Me and President. Quite sad to leave him too. Wonder how he's doing now...

Stevie! So cute.

All of us performed the sign language song for the school again. Some immature and selfish people wanted to cancel it, but luckily Mummy (the lady on the 2nd right) and the other teachers insisted that we performed. *HAH!* Seriously, the sign language song is definitely more meaningful than some Chinese/Hokkien songs. At least the hearing-impaired children and the Thai teachers can understand the sign language song. Btw, I'll upload the videos that Kangli took during the Cultural Exchange day. Later.

Oooo00hh... she's Stevie's girlfriend. *hahah* So cute lah...=)

A final group photo with all the Thai teachers. The school bought traditional handmade bags for the girls and pants for the guys. Nothing beats the Thais' generiosity and hospitiality. Miss all of them very much... By them I mean the Thai teachers.

It seems like the party is never going to end. Endless photo-taking sessions.

Shucks. I like this photo, but it's soooo blur!!! What a waste. And I just realised that I didnt take many photos with Stevie leh. Shucks, shucks, shucks!

Oh, me and Eleanor both think that this guy looks like Lester! Like, seriously.

Heh heh. He really has the goalkeeper sey, right? Say you agree.

After the party, the six of us went for our last round of shopping at Anusarn Market.

*** *** ***

At last. The final day has arrived.

I slept for only two hours because I was busy preparing gifts for the students the previous night.

Bought special gifts to those who are closer to me, people like KK, Stevie, President, my ah girl, Hardworking, Puppet Boyfriend, Joker/Commando, Favourite, Lian Jia, Goalkeeper, Basketball Buddy and a few others. The rest of the students got sweets. And I also developed photos for them! I seriously hope they'll cherish it. *hah!*

Bought lovely handphone accessorises and chocolates for the teachers too. =)

Morning was a rush. Busy giving out the correct gift to the correct person. Busy taking photos. And busy crying.

All Lian Jia's fault lah. He gave me a long hug, and suddenly all emotions erupted within me. Tears just started to flow like nobody's business. And I couldn't turn them off. *sigh*

So my eyes were a little swollen throughout the morning assembly. And we had to go on stage to bid our final goodbye and thank-you. *haiz* So embarrassed.

Adisorn, the vice-director and me.

Me and Mummy! She's a very very kind and loving lady who is the HOD for English. =)

Me and Somchai (hope I spell his name correctly), an English teacher. His classroom is just along the corridor where we painted the walls, so he's always chatting with me. =)

Pimonporn (oh dear I sure hope I spelt her name correctly cos she's also the vice-director of the school!) and me.

Me and Kandah (again, I spelt according to how we pronounce her name). Beam is her daughter, btw.

Us and Ann, a very pretty teacher who brought us to Chinatown the other day.

We were about to leave when the students asked to take one last photo.

It's hard to say goodbye because I dun wish to say it. If I could extend my stay there until after Xmas, I would.

Many many many hugs and kisses to all the students and teachers who gave me experiences that I would never ever forget in my entire life. =)

At the CM airport...

The Art Team showing off their gifts from the students. =)

We love Thailand! We love Chiang Mai! We love Anusarnsunthorn School for the Deaf! Yay!!!!

Chiang Mai Part IV

Chiang Mai Part Four.

Second weekend...another R & R. This time round, we hit the road for a trip to Chiang Rai, another province further up north from Chiang Mai. Which means it's even colder than CM. *brrrrr*

Cos it was a 5-hour plus ride, so we stopped at several places for lunch/toilet breaks.

This was our first stopover...

You can boil eggs at the hotspring!

Me and Fi Fi, who always goes "I want nobody, nobody but you..."

Ate the quail eggs that were boiled by the hotspring. Tasted exceptionally salty. Erm...

The next stopover: Glass Temple.

The Art Team! =)

The Pedagogy Team, comrades of the Art Team.

This looked rather eerie, like thousands of hands reaching out to be saved. And one of the hands has a red fingernail can! Creepy.

Finally, we reached our destination at Chiang Rai, where we stayed over at this house, which is situated in quite a secluded but peaceful-looking area.

Had a "Who Sleep in What Room" issue with the 3 xiao meimeis from the other group. They thought that by throwing their bags over the bed, they'd get the biggest room that was attached with a bathroom, which the six of us all thought should be given to the teacher and her daughter instead.

Oh wells. Being the matured ones, we let them have their way. So they got the room in the end. But whatever. I do not wish to go into details. The teacher and her daughter took a smaller room, fyi. But the six of us did not sleep in any of the rooms. We camped inside the van. *hehs*

We had BBQ for the night, and it was very fun towards the end.

Although the six of us did not get to eat much of the chicken wings, prawns and sausages (because they were all selfishly gobbled up by the other group - I do not wish to go into details cos it irks me), we had our own share of delicious food cooked by the Thai teachers.

The Thais are resourceful can...their way of BBQ-ing is very different from us Singaporeans. Usually we'll just bbq the marinated meat etc that are probably prepared beforehand, but the Thais actually brought along garlic, lime, various types of chili sauce, eggs, corriander and salt to serve as seasoning, and it's up to your own preference as to what kind and how much of ingredients you wanna add to add flavour to your meat.

So basically, we were taught how to marinate our fish, chicken and beef with those ingredients and wham! Authentic Thai-style BBQ food just for us. So I dun really care that the other group ate up almost all the I-bet-it-tasted-extremely-normal food.

Setting up a huge campfire that not only cooked our food, but kept us warm at night... =)

Me and Beam, the daughter of the Thai teacher who came along with us. She's a pretty and smart 10-year-old girl who has good massaging skills.

We spent the night drinking and watching shooting stars. I caught sight of 3 precious shooting stars, and they were simply beautiful. =)

The place where I spent the night. Not exactly a comfortable place to sleep. Especially when the weather's unbelievably cold (about 10-12 degrees). I woke up to aching muscles and my internal organs shivered like nobody's business. But still, it was an unforgettable experience. =)

My comrades slept in here as well.

The morning was equally as cold as night. So cold that we exhaled 'smoke'. Something that people from tropical country like us never experienced before. So we kept blowing air at each other, exclaiming pleasant surprises at how 'smoke' could actually escape from our mouth. *hehs*

Took some pictures before leaving the place. Beautiful scenery, beautiful people, beautiful weather.

Another R & R activity: crossing the border to Myanmar. So yeah, I can tell people I've been to Myanmar. For just two hours.

I think we wasted our time at Myanmar, cos there's basically nothing much to shop. I couldnt wait to get back to school fast cos I missed the students already. Plus our wall murals were far from finished.

*** *** ***

Next day: Sports Day and Cultural Exchange.

The Sports Day was organised by the PE people, and they played Tchoukball, a newly introduced sport.

My duty was to be a commentator for the match, and this was when my pek-chek-ness zoomed to the max.

Can I ask, how can you be a commentator when you dun even know the rules of Tchoukball?

I was clueless about the game, and nobody explained the rules clearly to me. So what could I do?

I tried.

But failed.

Cos I simply could not do it. I couldnt make a single comment because I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE SPORT AT ALL.

Luckily Fifi took over my place and she did a really good job. So I let her do it. Which means I had nothing to do.

So I went to play basketball with some of the students. I dun care if you think I'm not helping out. I dun care if you think I'm slacking or skiving. Like, whatever. *rolls eyes*

Me and a super funny guy whom I called Joker. His other nickname is Commando, cos he's quite muscular. *hehs* He's always smiling happily, and his happiness is contagious. I enjoy spending time with him, although he likes to make fun of me. My song mak (=very naughty in Thai) friend.

While I was spending quality time with the kids, I was called to play against the teachers in a friendly match of Singapore vs Thailand (and we played to lose).

I could have easily rejected by being selfish, but why should I stoop to their level? So I played loh. Anyway we must lose to the Thai teachers mah, so can anyhow play.

Anyway the guy in yellow is one of the PE teachers in the school, and he's also feminine. Like super feminine.

Me, the odd one out in terms of dressing and group. -_-"

I still prefer to spend my time with the students, even though it was spent doing nonsensical things like these:

During lunch, Stevie came up to me carrying a trophy. Turned out that his team got FIRST in the Tchoukball match. He was so happy and proud lah... And I'm happy and proud for him too. *hehs*

My favourite photo of all.. Me and KK, wearing my specs again. *hah!* So cute.

Me and my basketball buddy. We always played basketball before morning assembly, after lunch and before dinner whenever I had the time.

Okie. This is a hilarious picture. We got Lian Jia to pose beside this particular painting, because we think that he looks like the woman on the left. *muahahah*

At night was Cultural Exchange. Our puppet show was the first item.

I know the other group was waiting to see us flop, but the students did not disappoint us. They put up a really good show, and it was a success. The art team was sooooo proud of all of them.

I was pissed off at the end of the puppet show. NO ONE came to help carry the table off the stage, except John. He was at the stage, signalling to the other guys to help him, but NONE came over.

I dunno if they were blind or they simply refused to help us. But they made it so obvious that they wanted to have nothing to do with us.

Fine. Eleanor me and xinxin were about to go on stage to carry the table ourselves when finally ONE guy decided to step out to help.

Seriously loh, at this point, I'm totally sick of their behaviour. I dunno why they have to do such things to hurt us, who were once their friends. How can people be so selfish and immature?

I'm still rather bothered over the stuff that they did/said over the trip, but I'm totally in no mood to go into great details.

*** *** ***

On the second last day...

More pictures with the kids...

My second last day at the school was spent doing the final touch-ups on the wall murals and washing the corridor.

Many thanks to Angela, Kang Li, Corinne, Fizah, Moiz, John and the students for lessening the burden of the art team. Your contribution is greatly appreciated by us.

Again, thanks to Gary the so-called leader for throwing the scrubs at me, telling the 3 of us to wash the entire corridor while he and his friends cleaned the staircases, and instructing the 3 of us not to go out until our work is completed.

And so, our dear leader left three of his supposedly team mates to 'die on their own' because he and his friends happily went out shopping after their own work was done. They did not even bother to offer their help.

We tolerated their calculativeness and selfishness because we wanted to prove them wrong. They wanted us to 'die on our own'; they wanted to see us struggle without their help, but sorry to burst your bubbles, but we emerged as survivors.

We completed the entire 8 walls, washed up the entire corridor, returned the school its clean and stain-free corridor, and presented the school with 8 vibrant and colourful wall mural paintings, all done without any of your help. The art team has completed their objectives as stated on the proposal, and I believed we did more than that. At the very least, we painted all the walls out of diligence and perserverance. Unlike the 'staircase' group, which in my opinion did not even complete their work.

What ever happened to the first flight of staircase that was supposed to bear the words "Welcome to Anusarnsunthorn School for the Deaf"? All I saw was rainbow colours as the background.

Oh, dun tell me you're trying to cut corners by doing lesser work? Or is it due to plain laziness? Oh, let me guess, perhaps all of you are dying to go out shopping and have fun and so, you decided not to paint that stairs?

I can't think of any other excuses (read: excuses, not reasons) because there's no other possible ones except for the aboved mentioned. Anyway, I'm too tired to continue.

More frustrating details on the way. But they will be compensated by other happy and pleasant accounts. Promise.

Chiang Mai Part III

Chiang Mai Part Three.
Spent a long long time uploading all the pictures. Stupid blogger kept giving me problems.
I've already uploaded all pictures nicely so I can slowly write about them... Who knows there's a thing called "Out of memory on line 507"...Meaning each entry only allows that amount of space. So I have to create another post to upload the rest of the photos that are "out of memory"... -_-"
Oh wells.
Shall continue from where I stopped...
We are still at Karen Village, I guess...
Me, Xinxin and an endless rice padi field...

In front of the entrance to the long neck tribe...

Alas! The legendary women with extraordinary long necks.

She is the woman with the longest neck in the tribe. Meaning she's the prettiest of all.

I had a try on the gold bangles, and it was bloody heavy. I can't imagine having to wear that for the rest of my life. *shakes head*

I was told that the girls from that tribe have to wear the bangles at the age of 5, and one bangle will be added to the girl's neck every year until she's carrying 20 of them.

The day we visited the tribe was also the official opening of the church, which was located at the highest point of the village. You have to walk a rather steep slope to reach it.

After the long neck tribe, our team split up because some of them wanted to play Paintball while some wanna go shopping.

No prize for guessing my preferred activity.

And no prize for guessing how the team was split up.

Anyway, the 6 of us went shopping at the market and then chilled at B-Bloomz - a nice, relaxing and cosy little cafe that offers yummylicious frappes.

Headed back to school and took some photos with the students.

Woohoo! Another yandao. I call him Goalkeeper cos he has a goalkeeper look. *hahah* So cute! =)

The President of my fanclub. I dunno why, but he's like super attached to me. Always try to act cool in front of me, although he's only like 8 years old? I can't remember exactly his age, but he's super young. =)

We then went out with the Thai teachers and some of the students to a place that looks like Chinatown...

Love shopping at Thailand, be it Chiang Mai or Bangkok, cos the things are so cheap! A million thanks to the two pretty Thai teachers, Joy and Ann, for bringing us shopping and showing us around and waiting so patiently for us (cos we spent like an hour in one store that sells accessorises and stationary).

Back at school in a flash.

Lian Jia caught up with me at the staircase just so he could take a photo with me. *hehs*

The next day, I suppose.

Played checkers with these older students, and man, it was so fun! I didnt know checkers can have so many different versions! But I was thrashed badly by the girl whom I forgot her name but know that she's 18 and a very diligent student. So let's just call her...Hardworking.

Anyway, I was thrashed even badly by the guy on the second right, who became a good friend of mine over the days. He was given a nickname by the previous team, called Steven Gerald cos he's good at soccer. So I call him Stevie. Shuai hor?!?! He's like, my favourite lah (*ahem* we all have our own favourite, not just me okie). Oh, I forgot to mention, I won him in one of the games can!!! So happy. *lalalalala*

The guy in white is a Chinese who can't speak/understand Chinese cos he was brought up in Thailand from young. Also another yandao. *heehee* But I still support Stevie. *hah!* Oh, did I mention that Stevie is only 16? Unbelievable. He's like the tallest guy in the whole school and looks mature and he's only 16??!?!?!!!! *tsk tsk*

More Stevie and other yandaos later.

Another day for R & R. This time round we went to Doi Pui and Doi Suthep. Just normal sightseeing. But because the villages were high up in the mountains, the car ride up was long and brrrrrr cold. But the scenery was worth the dizzy ride.

Dunno how I ended up with them, but ya, that's the other group that I'm referring to. But I have to say, one or two of them are okie. They actually helped us alot on our wall murals. So many thanks to John, Fizah and Moiz. =)

What a coincidence. I merely turned around while walking and saw this car and the carplate number. It's exactly the same as my house telephone number. So amazing.

Saw an injured but very beautiful moth on the ground.

Our next destination was to visit a temple at Doi Suthep, if I'm not wrong.

That's the long long staircase we climbed in order to reach the temple. There is actually an elevator beside it, but you'll have to pay to ride it. So we chose the FOC way. And I will no longer complain about the NIE library staircase after climbing this one.

Oh the view from the top was breathtaking. The tiring climb was definitely worth it. =)

The golden pagoda that is still under construction. But nevertheless, it is magnificent already. Can't imagine its grandeur when everything's done.

Time for dinner! I forgot how the entire team got split up again, but luckily I was with my own group of babes. *hehs* Who needs the rest?

Dinner at Black Canyon Coffee was yummy. I ordered American Fried Rice, and my eggyolk is in a love shape! All of them fought to take a photo of it, cos it is a rare sight. =)

After dinner, we headed to Walking Street for more shopping. The place is humongous lah! The entire street was buzzed with shoppers, vendors, tourists, locals and all sorts of products. I forgot what I bought, but I bought a lot. *hehs*

The next day was also a free day for all of us, because the school brought the students to another school in Lumpang for competition, and we were invited to join them.

There's drawing, cooking, aerobics and dancing competitions. All the participants were disabled, like hearing impaired, mentally inclined, on wheelchairs etc. But they all shone brightly during that day, because they were able to do something you and I can't do.

Like drawing...

Cooking...

I've tried this dish before, and it's uber nice. The skin's like our soon kueh here, and the fillings are mostly pork and shrimp. Something like hey bee hiam.

The principal later enthusiastically invited us to a university, where there was a carnival going on.

We walked around randomly and came across this bu qi yan stall that was surrounded by many children.

It turned out that the auntie was making pancakes but it was something you'll never get to see in Singapore. The auntie is super talented lah! She can draw many different cartoons and turn them all to edible, tasty pancakes that even McDonald has to kowtow to her, at least in my opinion lah. And the best part? One pancake only costs 5 baht, which is around 20 cents. *gawks*

On the way back.

An uncomfortable ride cos tall me had to crunch low at the back of the school van. And because it wasnt airconditioned, we left the back door open so we wouldnt die from lack of ventilation. But then again, the air from outside was pretty bad. By the end of the 2 hour ride, I felt my nostrils are blocked with pisai. Still, it was an experience that the other 8 people would never get to have because they were all seated comfortably in a mini school bus. Heaven is soooo fair.

Enough of play. Time to get started on our wall murals. The basic drawings were up, and what was left were the Thai words. And Stevie came to help me! *muahaha*

Concurrently, Eleanor conducted the kite workshop that proved to be the most popular art workshop of all. All the students, whether they are down for art lessons or not, dropped by the art room and began to make kites for themselves, meanwhile using up all our materials. *tsk tsk*

Back to wall mural painting. Erm, I think we were waiting for paintbrushes, so we spent the time role-playing. *hehs*

Me as the teacher, Eleanor and President as my students. *hah!*

Xinxin's turn to role play. And I'm so fit to be a teacher, right?!?! *hahah* I looked so qian da.

Oh, more helpers!

I was on my way to the art room when Stevie asked me to look up, and I saw this.

The boys were flying kites at the rooftop lah! No wonder Eleanor was so angry that her kites were missing. So I asked Stevie to bring me up so I can take some pictures.

My 21-year-old peer and his kite.

The labour of the art team and many many students... we were almost halfway through. Mind you, we painted 8 walls with the theme of Life Cycles, cos the school wanted the drawings to be science-related.

And mind you again, the art team proved the leaders and his cronies wrong by successfully completed all the drawings, paintings and washing up WITHOUT any of their help. So yes, it was a huge sense of achievement.

And thank YOU for stupidly throwing the scrubs at me. That was a huge motivation for me to strive to get everything done sui sui. Not for you, but for the school and the students. And oh ya, we didnt go out at all until we have finished all our work. Unlike you and your cronies. That's why I didnt get to buy my soft toys. So, thank you very much.

(I didnt get to take our final masterpieces, which are all nicely touched up. Still waiting for someone to give me her photos... So make do with what I have here...)

At night, we spent the time rehearsing with the students for their puppet presentation. Btw, the props that you see were all handmade by the students and us.

KK posing with my specs. He's quite good-looking you know, but tsk tsk, he's feminine. I got another hao jie mei! =)

This dalmatian followed one of us into the school and refused to leave. Heard that it went into the guys' room and slept with them for the night. *shakes head*

Chiang Mai Part Four coming soon. =)

Chiang Mai Part II

Chiang Mai Part Two.

5th Dec 2008: Thai King's birthday.

It was a huge huge event that concerned the entire Thailand. The school was no exception, of course.

The community was invited to the school for the celebration. They brought food along to give to the monks, who also came to the school to say prayers...

After chanting for a long long time, the monks began to walk around the parada sqaure to collect food from the people.

Let me introduce you to my friend from Chiang Mai. His nickname is Lian Jia (= cheek in Mandarin) and he's the same age as MEEEEEE!!!! He's so small-sized right!!! Gosh. No wonder he appears to be more matured than the other kids. *hah!* And erm, he has acknowledged that he's feminine. So I got another jie mei! =)

This is just an evidence to show my mum that I really washed all my clothes and hung them all by myself.

Okie. Trying to be silly here. But the view is breathtaking.

After the procession and celebration, it is a tradition for some of the students to walk around the neighbourhood to pick up rubbish and do some simple cleaning. It was something like a community work, trying to make your community a cleaner and nicer place to live in. Seeing that it is a new experience, I tagged along with them.

Lian Jia, being the prefect, was trying to gather the smaller kids. Too bad he couldnt go out with us.

Bringing a whole bunch of kids out to the streets was quite nerve-wrecking, cos we had to constantly watch out for oncoming traffic. But it seems like the kids knew how to watch out for cars better than us, or me at least. *hehs*

A random dog along the way. Made me think of BeBe...

The kids are not at all afraid of getting dirty. They just use their bare hands to pick up any litter they see on the floor, and they did not whine or whatsoever. They just do. Imagine Singaporean kids doing that... *shakes head* Impossible.

A whole stretch of motorbikes. I was stunned by the number of bikes parked so neatly in a straight row.

Goats running around randomly.

Another pal of mine. And he's 21 too!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!?!? So teeny weeny small!

Another random dog at the streets.

Me and some of the kids. =)

Went jalan jalan and came across this stall that sells handmade bags that are something like recycle bags. Only they are nicer cos it's painted by this lady.

At night, we went to the Government House for yet another celebration for the king's birthday. This time round, fireworks were waiting for us!!!! =)

The king's gigantic portrait in the middle of the big big field. That night, over 10,000 people were present for the celebration. All of us were given a candle each so we could light it and pray along with the rest of the Thai people.

Pretty pretty hor? *hehs*

Ivan, me, Xinxin, Corrinne and Angela.

Fireworks!!! And you think our fireworks for New Year Day is good? Nah. Theirs was so much better. So pretty!!!

At the end of the celebration, everything was in chaos. Imagine 10,000 plus people trying to leave a place at the same time? Utter chaos. Plus there's no lamp posts, so the carpark area was rather dark. Quite worried that we would lose one another, but thankfully, everybody made it back to the school safely. =)

*** *** ***

The first weekend: no work but play! Our R & R was spent at Karen Village, or the long neck tribe. If I remembered correctly, we had to pay 500 baht to enter the village okie. So commercialised. *sigh*

Saw these three boys at the entrance. The middle boy was so so crude can! Can you see his middle finger pointing at you? *tsk tsk* And he's only four, btw.

Now this looks more like what a four-year-old boy should do. Smile!

The tribal people are still living in a primitive way, even in this 21st century.

The huge rice padi field.

I'm tired. Shall continue ltr... *yawns*

Chiang Mai Part I

Chiang Mai Part One.
We reached the school at late evening and after we settled down, the Thai teachers and staff treated us all to buffet/steamboat/bqq dinner, which cost only 149 baht per person (less than S$7 okie!). And man, the variety of food available is overwhelming. Love the dessert section especially. =)

Rise and shine on day 2!
A tour around the school to get us familiarise.
This is their parade square where morning assembly is held.

The long stretch of corridor where we were supposed to paint the walls outside the classrooms.

View from Level 2.

Their classroom. Super old school right... And they're still using blackboards and chalks, if you haven't notice.

Wooden doors that were decorated by the students, I suppose...

Students having lessons. They were super attentive and concentrating on their work while we were walking around the room. And it was very quiet as well, cos they can't talk. You can't get that in Singapore schools.

I think this was taken at the science lab.

Real starfish!!!

Huilin, Xinxin, me, Corrinne and a gigantic clam shell.

A drawing done by a student that left us all amazed... It's a Converse sneaker, btw.

More pictures of students having lessons...

The school has students with age ranging from 5 to 21/22. Some stay in the school, even over the weekends, but some don't. Fyi, the school that we were attached to is the only school for the deaf in Chiang Mai. There are 400+ students who are hearing-impaired, either totally or partially. Most can't speak while some can, but they all prefer to use sign language to communicate cos it's easier for them to sign than to speak.

These are the younger kids... They are all so tiny!!! *hehs*

Computer lesson for the younger kids. The children took turns to play the computer. And they did not fight with one another for the turns. Unlike our children here. Singapore kids are so fortunate. *tsk tsk*

Learning sign language of simple vocabulary. Some of us sat down with them for a while and learning sign language is tough but fun at the same time too! =)

Checking the conditions of the playground and wall mural paintings that the previous team did last year.

My bed in a little corner. The bed at Pasir Ris Dr 6 is more comfy. =)

Lovely.

Wonder what they were queuing up for??

Ta-da! They lined up to wash their utensils after eating. It was a sight that none of us from a clean and hygiene-first country will get use to it. They all rinse their dirty utensils in each huge basin and the water was just...gross. But to the Thai children this is nothing to them. At first we followed suit, but after a few washes, we couldnt take it so we got a bottle of detergent and washed our own utensils in another area. *hah*

The two little girls who would give me a hug every time they see me. And the girl on the right is especially attached to me, and dun ask me why.

My ah girl and I. =)

A shy girl who always smiles warmly at us...

Morning assembly...

Day 2: First art workshop. We taught the students how to make puppets out of socks. They learnt pretty fast, cos their art and craft is very very good. Or maybe our teaching is not bad too. *hehs*

While waiting for their classmates to come, the two of them 'entertained' us all by dancing. Btw, it was their Scouts' Day so that explained the uniforms. And btw again, the boy is actually a girl at heart. *hint hint* We call him Favourite.

The art team (Xinxin, Eleanor and I) with some of the 2-3 students. They are only 14 years old, btw... We are sooooo old!!! *ahem*

She has a twin sister in the school as well! So cool. We saw quite a few pairs of twins, and we never failed to be amazed. *hah!*

The student appeared to be like the teacher, while the teacher appeared to be like the student. *hah!*

This girl made a lovely necklace and gave it to me on the 2nd last day, which touched me greatly cos I have never expected anything from the students...

Trainee hairstylists (I suppose) came down to the school to cut hair for students who needed a haircut. No wonder the girls have all the same hairstyle. *shakes head*

Eleanor's ah boy and me.

Okie. That's Wangwang, the dog that lives in the school. Caught him stealing food from the dustbin after lunch one day. Poor thing. Had to resort to this to get food. *tsk tsk* BeBe should see this and realise that she's a superduper lucky dog that has me as her owner.

Wangwang licking his mouth, looking satisfied after stuffing his face into the dustbin full of, erm, waste. Grossssssss....

More and more puppet lessons... The students had to put up a puppet presentation on Cultural Exchange day, so we had to spend a bit more time making more puppets and props. Favourite was super enthu about making his puppet that he came back after lunch to continue his work.

Went out for ice-cream after a day of work... Till this point, the whole group 'appeared' to be united, cos we could still talk to one another.

Me and Huilin. After this, you won't see some people's faces here cos I never have the chance to take photos with them. Because they belonged to the other group. That's what happened when the leaders did not communicate with their teammates and initiated the disunity and caused much unhappiness as the days went by.

The ice cream that cost S$1.50... Cheap cheap cheap!

Saw a cool vintage lao ye che called Mafia parked outside the cafe... So cool lah!

The next day...wash clothes loh! My mother will be so proud of me, cos I washed my own clothes can!!! And I washed in the traditional way okie! Washing board and scrub. *hehs*

Hung the wet clothes at the rooftop, where air was fresh and cooling!

More puppet lesson...

Because the puppets were more or less done, it was time to get started on our wall mural drawings. The three of us spent the whole night drawing the drafts, until about 3am Thai time... But I dun think we were tired, cos we had three cups of iced coffee/tea each in the day (courtesy of the Thai teachers).

Me and my three drawings...

But some people thought we were stupid to draw out the drafts when we could simply have printed out the soft copy. Maybe, but at least after trying to draw out the pictures, I know how to draw them on the walls. So thank you very much for your 'concern'. *sarcasm in the air*
One last picture before I go...
The props and all the puppets that the students and us made together. Fyi, all of them were handmade okie...=)
To be continued...

Outing with poly mates...

Outing with poly mates...
First meet-up session after my CM trip...
Good to see my Gossipers, Thaya, Namira and Rahayu...
I guess all of them are getting fine with their life and that's what it matters...
We had buffet lunch at this Arabic/Middle East restaurant at Arab Street that we randomly chose. The food was not too bad for $9.90/pax, but I wouldnt recommend it unless you're desperate for a place to lunch. *hehs*
Me, Moley Phua, Namira, Rahayu, Thaya and Lustylester.
We shopped around Haji Lane and I've found some potential boutiques to get my CNY clothes. *hah!* But shopping for clothes have to wait till much later until I've shed some weight. *heehee*
We then ended at this boutique/ice-cream parlour called Pluck and we took a short little break.
Oh btw, their ice cream flavours are quite unique and they taste very nice!!! I strongly recommend lychee martini, sea-salt caramel and rums & raisins. *slurps!*
Can you tell that he's posing outside? *rolls eyes*

Pardon him.

I still can't get over the Thailand mode, so I went to buy them. *heh heh*

Seriously lor...I dunno if it's post-CM syndrome or what, but I kind of dislike the life in Singapore now. There's sooo many people, and everyone appears to be in a rush. They do not slow down their pace and learn to appreciate life.

I miss the simplicity of the 17-day life in CM. I miss the fact that there's no PRC/MLR/IDR/Bangla people in CM. Oh dear...think my poison is too deep... *hahah* Can't wait till my next holiday so I can go back to the school.

Anyway, more abt CM later.

So after eating ice-cream, The Gossipys headed to Vivo to shop around. But the crowd was overwhelming, so was the queue at F21. *tsk tsk* Have to go there again during the weekdays when crowds are lesser.

Had dinner at 85. Super duper miss the food there. Again, lots of people everywhere. *urgh*

Okie. Shall stop abruptly here.

Going to have to start blogging abt my CM trip cos I simply can't wait to share it all!!!!

Juicy juicy juicy little details on the way... =)

I'M BACK! =)

Sawadika!!!!
Oh dear I can't believe I'm back in Singapore!
I didnt know 17 days can pass so quickly!
Really really miss the kids there... wonder how they are all doing now...
Cried badly on the last day. Me and some of the students whom I'm close with.
Goodbyes are so hard to say.
Although it was just a short 17-day stay, bonds and friendships with the students and teachers have been made, which I believe will last till the very end.
The life in Chiang Mai had been simple but fulfilling. It is very very very different from Singapore, and I seriously think our kids here are extremely fortunate because they have such luxurious environment to live in, as compared to the Thai kids. But nevertheless, the Thai kids are a bunch of happy lots, even though they are all hearing-impaired.
Communication with the hearing-impaired children and non-English speaking Thais are not as hard as I thought it would be. But surprisingly, communication with those who can hear and speak English turns out to be harder during the entire trip.
Unfortunately, conflicts arose and lines of divisions were drawn clearly over the days in the school. I'm sick and tired of tolerating all the shitty stuff that were thrown to the 6 of us by the 8 of them, and I'm disappointed with my so-called friends who called themselves leaders.
The truth is, they have failed as leaders and they have lost my respect for them as leaders and as friends.
Friendships are made, and some are broken. But I dun think it is a pity at all. At least I saw their true colours.
Frankly speaking, it was the children and teachers from the school that kept the 6 of us going, which was why the separation on the last day was so hard for me.
No pictures for now cos I'm super exhausted to upload. Plus some photos are with my friends and we're only exchanging next week when we meet up for dinner. So I guess photos have to wait till then!
Okie...more juicy details later...
BeBe is waiting for me to bring her go gaigai...
I was so scared that she'd forget about me cos I was away for so long...but she was totally esctastic when she saw me... *hahah*
So take care my friends...
We shall meet up soonish okie!!!
Loves.
