MRT Blues...

Hello peeps!! It's been so long since I've last blogged.
Been very busy with schoolwork, and i've been waking up early in the morning and reaching home late at night for the past week.
I'm so hardworking that I can't stand myself anymore. *haiz*
Aniwae, I wanna whine abit about train rides in Singapore.
Overall, our train system is not that bad, to be fair.
At least we don't get stuck in the middle of the track or sth.
Well, at least not that often.
And although sometimes unfortunate things happen, like people jumping off from the platform and disrupting the service, or technical difficulties arise that caused tens of thousands hardworking civilians to be late for their school/work, the staff of SMRT do aim to work hard to bring us to our destination safe and sound.
Not unless you trip on the platform gap and injure yourself, even after they have repeatedly warned you to be careful of it. That's your own problem.
But then again, maybe it's not.
Most probably, you trip when you are trying desperately to get off the train when hundreds of kiasu passengers are trying desperately to squeeze into it at the same time.
Why?
Because they're fighting to get the million-dollar seat.
You'd ask, "Which one is the million-dollar seat?"
All the empty ones, duh. *rolls eyes*
Not that I have tripped myself before, fyi.
It's just that this is the phenomenon I've witnessed everytime I reached Boon Lay station ard 8AM, the time when all the people are rushing to work.
Those people waiting on the platform have no basic courtesy AT ALL.
Once the door opens, they'd FIGHT their way in, hitting you with their belongings, making you squirm because of the pain.
Ugly Singaporeans (some foreigners might be in it too cos I believe they are heavily influenced by our kiasuism culture).
What's so difficult to just wait for a few seconds to let people to get off the train?
It's not as if the train will just depart like that *snaps fingers* when the clock strikes 8.01AM... You'd think it's Hogwarts Express or sth. *rolls eyes*
This is why I hate morning classes.
I hate the huge crowd at BL station in the morning.
That's one of my MRT blues.

Have you ever look out for pregnant ladies or elderly people boarding the train?
Do you give up seats for them?
The politically correct answer would be YES just so you can be a virtuous person.
But then again, not all of us do.
Most of us will just ignore or feign sleep. To be fair again, maybe some really did not notice there are others who need the seat more than they do.
There was one time when I was busy exploring my ipod on the train. After several stations, the aunty sitting beside me got up and left, and a woman walked over to take her seat. It was only then did I look up and saw that her stomach's really huge. I didnt know she's been standing in front of me for quite some time cos all that time i was looking down at my ipod.
So imagine my embarrassment after she sat down. *tsk tsk*
I really didnt mean it. Up till now I still feel abit guilty towards that lady. Hehs. Which is why I make it a habit to look out for such 'needy' people whenever I take the train.
But then again, I faced another dilemma.
This time round, the characters involved are a pair of old Indian couple.
They got in the train and stood in front of me.
I made gestures to ask them if they wanna sit (cos some old people would prefer to stand). They shook their heads.
Okie lo, since they dont want to sit, so be it.
BUT THEN!!!
A few stations later, an uncle, who had been sitting beside me for quite some time, suddenly got up and gestured for the old lady to sit down.
AND SHE DID!
Can you see my whole point???
Why the hell when I offer my seat to her, she didnt take it?!?!
*TSK TSK*
For that moment I was portrayed as a disrespectful adult who refuse to offer seats to elderly.
Damn.
It's so wrong.
But I must confess something here.
I do pretend to be asleep sometimes cos I really did not want to give up my seat. Hehs.
BUT!
I only do that when I am really exhausted after a long day of school, or when I am carrying heavy stuff. I can't bear to stand for one full hour, so pardon me.
I'll also ignore if I'm not sure whether that person is old enough for me to offer my seat, or the woman is really pregnant (it could be just fats).
This can also generate embarrassment on both parties' sides because firstly, I'll look silly not to be able to differentiate between a fat or pregnant woman, and that woman'll probably slap me if I mistook her for being pregnant when in actual fact, she's just well-fed.
Same thing for the oldies.
Some people just don't wanna admit they are old. They'd get offended if you offer seats for them cos in their heart they still think they are young and strong.
Haiz.
真的很难做人啊!!!!
Anyhow, the most important point is to instil a sense of basic courtesy and some patience in yourself.
Give way to alighting customers.
Offer seats to someone who needs it more than you.
The world can then be a better place.
Check out 王力宏's 改变自己:
It has some relevance to what I've just nagged about.
Enjoy =)
